The Sherman Early Childhood Center is a full-time Jewish preschool at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, MD. We are committed to offering a safe and nurturing environment where learning happens through play, collaboration, and an integrated emergent curriculum.

We are seeking a caring, inspiring and enthusiastic teacher who can be a contributing professional team member in a class of young children. This position will work Monday – Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:30pm (depending on the needs), year-round.

*Applicants with experience working with children with differing abilities are highly preferred and compensated.

Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of experience with young children, ages 2-5.
  • Experience with constructivist pedagogy and emergent curriculum.
  • 4-year education degree in education or 4-year degree in another area of study, and the 90-hour Childcare Course. If 90 hour course is not complete, willing to begin the coursework in the first three months.
  • Creative, team player, excellent communicator, nurturing, dedicated, and flexible.

Responsibilities:
  • Set up, plan, and implement provocations, lessons, and activities that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Follow all school, synagogue, and requirements set by the Office of Childcare, MD State Department of Education.
  • Support the children’s physical, emotional, and special needs.
  • Ensure the safety of all children with proper supervision and care.
  • Supporting the school's educational philosophy, values, Jewish content, and the children and families experience.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the team and leadership regarding the students, families, and the classroom.
  • Create and maintain documentation of student progress, incidents, and be familiar with all student needs and health issues.
  • Participate in all team meetings and family programming assigned, beyond school hours.
  • Physical ability to care and insure the safety of all children including lifting, carrying, and running.
